Caffe SSD on TX2 - CUDNN_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR

Hi Experts!

I am trying to install Caffe SSD on TX2 (Jetpack 3.1). It builds correctly but the unit tests result in the following error

F0806 00:38:52.693260 13235 cudnn_softmax_layer.cpp:15] Check failed: status == CUDNN_STATUS_SUCCESS (4 vs. 0)  CUDNN_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR

The same error is there even if I downgrade CuDNN to 5.1. Would be super helpful to give some directions what to look into :-) Thanks!

Caffe SSD is cloned from: GitHub - weiliu89/caffe at ssd

Hi,

I can build SSD without error. Here are my steps:

1. Flash TX2 with JetPack3.1

2. Prerequirement:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse

sudo apt-get install libboost-dev libboost-all-dev
sudo apt-get install libgflags-dev libgoogle-glog-dev liblmdb-dev libatlas-base-dev liblmdb-dev libblas-dev libatlas-base-dev libprotobuf-dev libleveldb-dev libsnappy-dev libhdf5-serial-dev protobuf-compiler

3. Source

git clone https://github.com/weiliu89/caffe.git
cd caffe
git checkout ssd

What’s the latency supposed to be from a USB webcam? I’m using a Logitech C920, and I’m getting a latency of 2-2.5 seconds with the SSD.

It’s reporting an 8-9fps frame rate.

I’m using the model included here, and the clocks are set to max.

I did verify that the Webcam works correctly (little to no latency) with the Jetson-Inference examples.

Hi,

We only run ssd_pascal_video.py sample.

If you want to enable Webcam script, please build OpenCV with v4l2 support.
Also, please modify the script to open camera with GStreamer. (GPU-based pipeline)

Thanks.

Thanks.

With the ssd_pascal_video.py sample I’m getting around 7-8fps on average with max clocks enabled. With the default boot up clocking it’s around 3.5fps.

Hi,

Guess that ssd_pascal_webcam.py open camera with OpenCV.
Default OpenCV use FFmpeg-based CPU decoder. You can switch to GStreamer for acceleration.

Thanks.

Hello, so what are we supposed to change in the script from comment #2 to use the camera on the jetson dev kit?

also when i type

git checkout ssd

i get "error:pathspec ‘ssd’ did not match any file(s) known to git

Hi,

First, you need a GStreamer enabled OpenCV. (OpenCV4Tegra doesn’t enable GStreamer)
http://dev.t7.ai/jetson/opencv/

Then, read camera with the command like this:

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src ! video/x-raw, width=(int)1280, height=(int)720,format=(string)I420, framerate=(fraction)24/1 ! nvvidconv flip-method=2 ! video/x-raw, format=(string)BGRx ! videoconvert ! video/x-raw, format=(string)BGR ! appsink

For error in comment #8, do you use the source of SSD GitHub?

Thanks.

hello, i was following the opencv download instruction from link provided and when i write:

cmake -j4

i get:

how do i fix this?

Hi,

TX2 GPU architecture is sm_62, sm_53 is for TX1.

cmake -D WITH_CUDA=ON -D CUDA_ARCH_BIN="6.2" -D CUDA_ARCH_PTX="" -D WITH_OPENGL=ON -D WITH_LIBV4L=ON -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RELEASE -D CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/local ..

Do you have rech 8.9 fps frame?

Hi,

We reach this on video use-case. The environment is JetPack3.1.
Thanks.

I almost tried all the ways posted on devtalk.nivida.com, but it still can’t figure out.

when I run VGG19 on my TX2(JetPackage3.1), an error ocurred as mentioned above, That is,

‘F1213 11:51:46.367198 2015 cudnn_conv_layer.cpp:53] Check failed: status == CUDNN_STATUS_SUCCESS (4 vs. 0) CUDNN_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR’

According to the Makefile & Makefile.config, caffe has been compiled successfully.

Please help with this tough problem.

Hi,

Could you use a smaller network to check if it can be executed correctly? Ex. AlexNet?
This check will narrow down the root cause comes from memory or not.

Thanks.

Hi AastaLLL,

If I do not use CUDNN, then VGG19 can run on TX2 successfully. But using it will cause a such problem. Does using CUDNN will need more memory compared to the one does not? By the way, how do I check If I install CUDNN successfully?

Thanks.

Hi,

With cuDNN, Caffe will inference a model on GPU mode.
We have launched VGG16 on GPU mode successfully but have no experience on VGG19.

Before giving a further suggestion, could you run a smaller network to check if this issue is from out of memory?
Thanks.

hi I also meet the same problem on tx2 when I am trying to run caffe-ssd.

After building caffe-ssd I can run it with :
python ssd_detect_py

but ,when I try to use ssd_detect.bin,it just list the following errors:
F1216 08:25:32.651688 1943 cudnn_conv_layer.cpp:53] Check failed: status == CUDNN_STATUS_SUCCESS (4 vs. 0) CUDNN_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR

I have cancled USE_CUDNN := 1 in the Makefile.config before build this project.

Can you give me some advice? Thanks.
