[Jetson-TX2]: mmc resume errors after booting from suspend

Hi,

I am trying to verify suspend-to-disk on jetson-tx2.
Suspend is working fine, but during resume emmc is failing to resume.

It returns with:
mmc0: error -110 during resume (card was removed?)

Please see the complete logs below.

I tried to add some prints in mmc driver to check the cause.
It seems that mmc is not responding during resume.

Do you have any pointers to fix/debug this issue?
When I see the linux kernel mainline kernel-4.14 (latest), I could see that there are some patches in drivers/mmc/core/* which are missing in jetson tx2 kernel version-4.4.
Do you think any of the latest patches may help to solve this issue?
If yes, can you point to some of relevant once?

Or, you think this issue could be related to emmc firmware?
Or, it could be related to some other issue?

Can you explain what changes you have made to implement suspend to disk?
From the log it seems suspend to mem being performed.
If we can get the information, we can be able to reproduce the error and help better.
From the existing log, for sure SDMMC has failed to resume properly leading to the errors.

Just followed the normal mainline process for snapshot boot which can be involved from command-line through /sys/power/state.

Emmc is on sdhci@3460000
Also, I would sugggest you to use R28 which is more stable and efficient.

Ok, this is good pointer. Can you point me out to the exact log messages?
Note that normal eMMC booting (as well as runtime suspend/resume) is working fine.

For early resume not happening for eMMC, do you see any changes are missing in the code?
What could be the cause? How to confirm this?
If you want be to add in specific logs please let me know.
If you have any reference patches from mainline or R28 please let me know.

Yes we would like to upgrade to R28, but after making basic functionality working for R27.

I did not give you boot loader logs, so you may not find it.
What we do is, after suspend to disk, we normal reboot the system, then power up again and boot with previous image. Thus boot loader comes into picture.
So, I was suspecting, if something is not handled properly in bootloader (for eMMC), will it create problem?

Can you share the complete log for

Before that, please enable dynamic debug using the below commands

Also, can you confirm if you have made any changes to sdhci Devicetree or kernel driver?

I got busy with some other tasks.
Anyways I discussed internally, it is difficult to share entire boot up logs.
Also I feel it’s not required.
We haven’t made any changes to sdhci driver or device tree. We just applied relevance patches from nvidia tx2 repo.

Also during last debugging we found it could be related to eMMC tuning. We found that sdcard tuning is happening but eMMC tuning is not happening during resume.
Can you confirm This?

Also as I said before, do you suspect any changes required in boot loader to support suspend to disk feature?
Or is it very specific to nvidia hardware?
I think this information will be very helpful.

Because we are facing similar problems for other peripherals as well such as: usb, Ethernet, pcie, etc.

I don’t think its related to tuning.
I believe you are after shutdown, you are starting boot from uboot and not from MB1 which comes just after Bootrom. As a result may initialization like pinmux and memory etc are missing.
As a result you see many controllers are failing.

OK. So you mean to say nvidia boot loader does not initialize the basic peripheral (properly) before switching to kernel?
As we see some basic peripherals are not working: eMMC, USB, ethernet, etc. However some peripherals are working such as: UART, I2C, sdcard, GPIO, etc.

Also, the same scenario is working on other boards such as: BeagleBone, Hikey etc.

So we wonder what is the major bottlenecks in nvidia.

To further investigate the issue, can you suggest some steps.
Since we cannot share the entire logs (due to security reasons), I can help you in debugging as per your instructions.
Is there any other way to initialize those peripherals during boot loader?

We can start with USB first.

So, it looks like, during shutdown and resume case, xHCI controller could not be initialized properly.
And thus Mailbox interrupts are not received from the Falcon micro-controller.
