NVIDIA® Nsight™ Visual Studio Edition 5.5 is now available

NVIDIA® Nsight™ Visual Studio Edition 5.5 is now available for download in the NVIDIA Registered Developer Program.

This release extends support to the latest Volta GPUs and Win10 RS3. The Graphics Debugger adds Pixel History and OpenVR 1.0.10 support as well as Vulkan and Range Profiler improvements. Nsight Visual Studio Edition version 5.5 also introduces new compute tools: The Next-Gen CUDA Debugger provides a seamless, homogeneous debugging experience for GPU+CPU debugging, while Next-Gen CUDA Profiler uses a command line interface to customize collection of counters, statistics, and derived values for given CUDA kernel launches. Customizable profiler results, including source, disassembly, kernel execution flowchart, and memory throughput, can be filtered, compared, annotated, and exported.

Take a look at some of the highlights in the new NVIDIA® Nsight™ Visual Studio Edition 5.5 release:

Hello,

I have recently joined your Developer Program. When trying to download NSight 5.5 for Visual Studio, Win 10 x64 version, I am told that I have to join GameWorks program before, even if I am signed into my account, and GameWorks and other programs, as I read, have been merged into general NVIDIA Developer Program.
Can you please advise on how I can access the download?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards,

Fabio

Hi fabio.canepa,

We are sorry you are experiencing issues. Please allow us to help resolve this issue and try the following.
1.Did you receive the “Approved” email after registering for the GameWorks Registered Developer Program?
2. If so, please log out and try again, you should be able to download without issues.
If you still encounter issues, please respond with exact reproduction steps so we can assist.

Thanks,
Letitia

Hi Letitia,

Thank you for your help. Here are my answers:

  1. I couldn’t register to the GameWorks Registered Developer Program. When I tried to do it a few days ago, I found only the general NVIDIA Developer Program available, and read that it merged the former programs such as GameWorks and so on. I have received the “Approved” email for NVIDIA Developer Program, and can see it as active in the MyPrograms section in my user account

  2. Here are my steps:

  • I log in with my credentials after logging out
  • Go to page https://developer.nvidia.com/rdp/assets/nsight-visual-studio-5_5-general-win10-64-driver to download the update and get “The content you requested requires membership in the GameWorks Developer Program. Please login if you are already a member, or join today.” plus a ‘join now’ button
  • I click the ‘join now’ button and I get the page https://developer.nvidia.com/developer-program. At the end of the page there is “Next step: click on the join button…” but since I already have membership, I have a 'Member Area" button instead of “Join now”
  • I click the “Member area” button and get to the ‘https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-developer-program’ with links to exclusive downloads, documentation and so on. From here I cannot directly access the download, and if I go again to the download page to download the NSight 5.5 update, the cycle repeats.
    Thank you gain,

Fabio

Hi fabio.canepa,

You can get the build here https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-downloads.
Please try it again, log out and log in again if needed.
Please tell us if it still doesn’t work.

Thanks,
Letitia

Hi Letitia,

The page https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-downloads you linked contains a download link (button with green background) that points to https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=nsight-visual-studio-edition-5-5-0. There I find links to specific version, and mine is https://developer.nvidia.com/rdp/assets/nsight-visual-studio-5_5-general-win10-64-driver, the same page you can see in my former step details.
Anyway, I retried just now and nothing has changed. To summarize:

Fabio

Hi Fabio,

Thanks for your detailed steps.
After go to https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-downloads, please click " Nsight (Win 64-bit)" to download nsight build.

Thanks,
Letitia

Dear Letitia,

please check yourself the content of https://developer.nvidia.com/nsight-visual-studio-edition-downloads: there isn’t any direct link to Nsight (Win 64-bit), but a green button with the label “Download Nsight Visual Studio Edition 5.5” which links to https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=nsight-visual-studio-edition-5-5-0, and then:

Can you please check yourself, or how can I send you some screenshots to help you understand what’s going on?
Thank you,

Fabio

Hi Fabio,

Please don’t choose the link for special environment, just click " Nsight (Win 64-bit)" on the webpage https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=nsight-visual-studio-edition-5-5-0.

Regards,
Letitia

Fabio,

To clarify what Letitia is saying, Nsight Visual Studio Edition v5.5 will be downloaded when you select “Nsight (Win 64-bit)”.

The “GeForce Desktop (388.59 Win10 64-bit)” is a link to the driver qualified at the time of release. I can’t reproduce your issue with this link but have asked our web team to look into this. As an alternative, you can obtain a driver from http://www.nvidia.com/Download. Select this “Beta and Older Drivers” link to get a “Recommended/Certified” 388.59 driver.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Thank you, I have already donwloaded the update by using the link “Nsight (Win 64-bit)” as suggested.

Though, I suggest you check what I have pointed out in my previous messages. I suppose that, after merging the individual programs to NVIDIA Developer Program, some protected downloads still require the old program, which is no more joinable due to the recent merge.
Thank you and kind regards,

Fabio

I have uninstalled version 5.4 to install this 5.5 but setup fails and I get There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.
The error happens on the attempt to install obsolete directx redistributable (why don’t allow the user to uncheck extra components unneeded?)

When I attempt to install NVIDIA_Nsight_Visual_Studio_Edition_Win64_5.4.0.17240.msi, it always results in an error and rolls back. I first noticed this failure when attempting to install the CUDA development tools and it would fail unless I deselect Visual Studio integration (which is what always failed there…NSight).

I am running Visual Studio Professional 2017 15.5.6. It’s worth noting that my Professional installation is: “Visual Studio Professional 2017 (2)” I suspect your installer is not looking in the proper place during installation and assumes a path without “(2)” in it.

I have not been able to find any logs or system events that describe in detail why the installer is aborting, so I can only guess at the cause.

Please advise.

By the way, I also am prompted to join the Gameworks developer program when I click on the driver download links. I am obviously logged in under the NVidia developer program credentials already. https://developer.nvidia.com/rdp/assets/nsight-visual-studio-5_5-notebook-win7-64-driver or https://developer.nvidia.com/rdp/assets/nsight-visual-studio-5_5-general-win7-64-driver both result in this prompt.

As I have said The setup problems are caused by the fact directx 9 redist setup fails if you try to setup It on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Nsight attempts to launch the setup of directx 9 as third part library during the installation, this fails and the main nsight setup shows an error and rollback.

I’m running Windows 7 Enterprise x64…no Win10 FCU

This does appear to have been exactly the problem. I uninstalled all instances of Visual Studio, and then reinstalled (this is the only way to remove the (2) from the installation) and the problem is gone, I was able to install NSight Visual Studio.

Perhaps the maintainer of the installer can fix it to handle this case…while not common, I wouldn’t call this secondary installation as rare.

I wonder if this version of Nsight support debugging HLSL on Geforce GTX 960 graphic card.
