TK1 HDMI video output sync polarity is always negative

When I connect the Jetson TK1 HDMI output to a 1080p60 device it outputs negative sync polarity for both vertical and horizontal even though the EDID specifies positive polarity for both (measured with a quantum data 780E loaded with the device’s EDID).

Also the xrandr utility lists ALL resolutions as having positive polarity for both vertical and horizontal even though it always outputs negative for both and the EDID specifies other polarities.

I’ve added some printk’s to the kernel to see what the X driver is reading from the FBIO_TEGRA_GET_MODEDB ioctl and the polarities look good there.

Are you using rel-21.5 or rel-21.6?

Could you help do below test on your tk1?

  1. Check polarity when gnome desktop GUI is on.
  2. Check it again after change to console mode (through ctrl+alt +f1~f6)

I’m using rel-21.6.

Polarity is wrong with gnome desktop GUI.

Still wrong with console mode.

With the attached libnvdc.so the sync polarities are now always positive which is still wrong but at least matches the xrandr values.

The sync polarities are lost when xrandr gets the modes from the kernel. They are correct in the kernel (from the edid).

Could you point out a case that xrandr and kernel does not match? Where to check the sync polarity?

Does anything change after you update the libnvdc.so? Please describe more about your problem, otherwise we cannot help.

I can’t easily create a patch since I have other changes to the drivers/video/tegra/fb.c file.

Or could you just briefly point out where to add your log?

In the ‘case FBIO_TEGRA_GET_MODEDB’ of the tegra_fb_ioctl() function in drivers/video/tegra/fb.c (around line 527) is where the data is sent to the driver. The polarities in the modedb are correct there.

Does this cause HDMI not function when xrandr/ kernel has mismatch polarity

I am working around this issue for now. Some HDMI devices require the sync polarities to be correct for the given display resolution.
