Lenovo Thinkpad P50 Bumblebee NVidia driver load issue

Dear NVidia Support,
I have not been able to get the NVidia driver to load on my current Lenovo Thinkpad P50. I previously had it working on a Lenovo Thinkpad W541, but I had to turn that in and it is no longer available. Here are the latest intersting parts from kernel.log:

I shall now create the topic and figure out how to attach the .gz file with all of the relevant info.

Dear NVidia Support,
I am having an issue with attaching the tar.gz file. It is 215 MB in size. It contains all of the relevant rpm files for my bumblebee, bumblebee-nividia, and bbswitch versions that have helped me isolate the issue and other supporting documents. I have selected the paperclip above and selected it, but it does not appear to upload on this webpage. How may I send it to you?
Thank you in advance for assisting me in resolving this issue.

Dear NVidia Support,
The above mentioned tar.gz file also contains the required nvidia-bug-report.log.gz file. How may I attach it.
BTW, I am unable to get this website login to work via Chrome. I am using Firefox instead.

Sep 3 18:09:37 localhost kernel: NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine was not called for 1 device(s).
Sep 3 18:09:37 localhost kernel: NVRM: This can occur when a driver such as: #012NVRM: nouveau, rivafb, nvidiafb or rivatv #012NVRM: was loaded and obtained ownership of the NVIDIA device(s).

You have to blacklist nouveau.

Dear NVidia Support,
Thank you for your reply. I had already blacklisted nouveau. I researched the issue and I rebuilt a new bumblebee rpm that includes patches that resolve the error above, which was caused by xpra-backend being installed, but not the xpra-backend branch of bumblebee being incorporated into my previous bumblebee rpm build. I have resolved this issue with my current bumblebee.rpm.
How may I attached the .gz file with all of the relevant supporting documents and rpms? It is around 215 MB in size. Most of the file size is because of the nvidia driver (390.87) is inside the src.rpm and rpm for bumblebee_nvidia related rpms. Is this file size too large?
Here are my current results, which still have the issue below from kernel.log:

20180905 bbswitch-0.9_bumblebee-3.3.0-4_bumblebee-nvidia-390.87_build_results.tar.gz (1.51 MB)

Dear NVidia Support,
I just uploaded the comment above a tar.gz file with the text files, including the bug report.gz. It is still scanning. I shall now try to upload a tar.gz file with the relevant rpms. The remaining rpms may be downloaded from:

https://www.linux.ncsu.edu/bumblebee/

following the directions for installing the repositories.

I have disabled SELinux to help me debug the issue because of an issue with the SELinux rpm for this build of bumblebee.

Dear NVidia Support,
I am unable to upload the tar.gz file with the relevant rpms. I suspect that this is because of file size limitations. It is 213 MB in size. I am now uploading a tar.gz file without the bumblebee-nvidia rpms with driver 390.87. Here is the link to the corresponding bumblebee issue report:

https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/974

20180905 Bumblebee some relevant rpms.tar.gz (251 KB)

It’s sufficient to just provide the nvidia-bug-report.log.gz, anything else doesn’t help. Looking at the logs reaching back nearly 1.5 years, this device never worked across many kernel and driver versions. Taking this into account, I suppose it’s simply broken.
Things to try if you’re not willing to give up:

  • Upgrade to kernel-alt, should give you some 4.x kernel
  • Use kernel parameters
acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2009"
  • Remove bumblebee and the nvidia driver, thus switching to nouveau. Then use kernel parameters
nouveau.debug=debug,VBIOS=trace

Reboot, afterwards run dmesg >dmesg.txt and attach that.

Dear generix,
Thank you for your assistance.
The kernel parameters:

acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=“Windows 2009”

with the bumblebee and bumblebee_nvidia driver did not work. I received the same error message as above.
I shall now attach the dmesg.txt file created after following your instructions above with the stock Centos 7.5 kernel I used above.
I shall then try installing the bumblebee and bumblebee_nvidia driver after installing the kernel-ml packages form elrepo and report back.
Thank you again for your assistance.
20190907_dmesg.txt (221 KB)

Dear generix,
I installed the kernel-ml 4.18.6-1 from elrepo and then erased and installed bumblebee, bumblebee-nvidia and bbswitch-dkms, and then executed sudo dracut --regenerate-all --force, and then rebooted.
This has resolved the issue. I am now able to run optirun glxgears and use the nvidia driver.
I shall now attach the tar.gz file with the documentation of this result and the bumblebee-nvidia.spec file for building the rpms for the 390.87 version of your driver, since the file size limitations prevent one from attaching the src.rpm and rpm files for these builds.
We now have a fix for getting bumblebee and the nvidia drivers to work with Centos 7.5 on a Lenovo Thinkpad P50.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
