I’m currently testing out Ubuntu 14.10 and i’ve installed the 346.47 drivers. At the moment, i’m trying to save my X Server Display Configuration via Save to X Configuration file. Typically, i’ve always saved it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf … but despite doing that, the settings won’t be restored on reboot of Ubuntu. Where am I meant to save the xorg.conf file, if not to /etc/X11 ?
Some of Ubuntu’s packages have scripts that overwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Are you finding that the contents of your xorg.conf are getting changed? If so, I’d recommend checking with an Ubuntu support forum.
A little late replying again. :) I took a look…unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Ubuntu 14.10 / 15.04 are the only distros I know that don’t seem to want to load any saved resolution and refresh rate settings on boot.
