Steam random crash nvidia-358.16 related!

Hello,

I’m having a problem with the latest nvidia driver v358.16 - it seems to cause a random steam crash on Arch Linux. I know its not a Arch Linux problem because I did temporary downgrade to nvidia driver 355 - If required I can provide a debug report as long as you tell me what commands to use - the bug happens when I try and restore steam backup files and then steam closes - I also have discovered that others are having problems as indicated in my thread here Steam crashes / Multimedia and Games / Arch Linux Forums

I would appreciate someone at nvidia to assist, I will mention on the Arch Linux thread that I’ve posted this on the nvidia site…

I’m also having this problem when doing random things in the steam client.

The steps you would need to do to generate a bug report (as described here :https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/522835/linux/if-you-have-a-problem-please-read-this-first/) are:
1 - close x server and start with the logverbose parameter.
2 - Make problem happen again.
3 - run nvidia-bug-report executable.
4 - Attach the log file here in the forums

I’m having this same issue as well. same identical error. just non stop crashing. can’t create a steam library. can’t change my screenshot folder without crashing. sometimes i have to open it 10 times because 9 times in a row it just crashes at start up. i’ve tried running steam with full native runtime and tried the latest steam beta. all the same issues.

at first i thought it was valve until i stumbled upon the arch thread which lead me here.

had none of this nonsense a few months ago.

first the issue with lock elision with skylake systems and the nvidia driver and now this issue with steam. what has been going on with nvidias quaility? this is borderline terrible AMD support here.

I’m also having this issue on Arch Linux. Most effects Steam but I think Wasteland 2’s been a bit crashier than normal also.

Hello,
Steam (and possibly other applications) are affected by a regression in r358.16 that was identified and fixed. However, the fix hasn’t yet made it into one of our public releases (it will soon).
In the meantime I advise reverting to the latest available long lived branch.

I have no such regression on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS alpha 1 gnome 3.18+ with steam and dota 2…but sometimes I mean only few times it just quitting for some unknown reason @_@ yet it is that bug maybe.
