Hi i-m using:
Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 64-bit
GNOME 3.14.1
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2
Video: Quadro NVS 290/PCIe/SSE2
Nvidia Driver Version 340.96
If GPU utilization is between 0% to 70%
Video Engine Utilization is always = 0%
?
even if i watch youtube, or play games.
!!!I can not attach „nvidia-bug-report.log.gz”!!!
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (80.1 KB)
Try to watch HD video on normal video player that is stored on your PC (not online) and check again. Some browsers don’t have hardware acceleration so it doesn’t do decoding in GPU.
I opened 2 different video files simultaneously one with Totem another with VLC,
GPU 61%
Video engine 0%

do you have vdpau installed for video decoding acceleration / nvenc for encoding?
just because you run a video it doesn’t mean it’s accelerated
post output of vdpauinfo
I installed in synaptic: NVENC Video Encoding runtime library, and vdpauinfo they both was not installed.
Below is vdpauinfo output:

I have installed nvidia 340.98 and graphic chip is g210m
you can use nvidia video engine, when you try to play the content with players which uses cuvid decoders i.e h264_cuvid ,hevc_cuvid , mjpeg_cuvid, mpeg1_cuvid ,mpeg2_cuvid ,mpeg4_cuvid,vp8_cuvid,vp9_cuvid etc. how ever playing via video engine may play the videos in slow motion .because video decoding done in GPU and decoded data which is very large written back to ram.and the data again rendered through opengl on GPU.therefore to use video engine efficiently u must have large ram and should be above ddr5.
