I have run nvidia-bug-report.log.gz, but I did not find out how to attach it, should I paste it plain text?

Notice that I had to comment the line in /etc/modprobe.d/50-nvidia.conf, otherwise the system would loop infinitely giving the “The Unknown NVIDIA G8x Series GPU installed…” message.

Thanks in advance.

Hover your cursor over your original post above and you should see an attach option appear on the top right. Like you, I too was confused by this unintuitive system, since attachment options are usually available before you submit a post in other forums.

Hi 3vi1,

Thank you very much!

nvidia-bug-report.log.gz is now attached.

Regards,
Marcelo.

The error message tells you exactly what’s wrong:
NVRM: The Unknown NVIDIA G8x Series GPU installed in this
NVRM: system is not supported through the 367.57 NVIDIA
NVRM: driver. You can try the NVIDIA 340.xx Legacy drivers.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/107868/en-us

According to http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/108586/en-us GT 730 is supported by 367.XX, so either the message is wrong, or the nvidia site is wrong.

I believe that the driver message is wrong, since I have another machine running exactly the same driver with a GT 740.

I have also tried to run with the 340.xx drivers and it did not work either, but I have not investigated as much, since 367.xx is supposed to work.

I recently installed a Gigabyte GV-N730SL-2GL GeForce GT 730 in a neighbour’s 64-bit Linux Mint 17.3 MATE machine. It didn’t like newer nVidia drivers but works fine with the driver version recommended by 'Mint’s Driver Manager.
